Lack of proper exercise may lead to mental strain, inefficiency in daily productivity, or even a nervous breakdown. Meditative Qigong is one of the best exercises to release mental and physical tension.
The Chinese believe that Chi is a kind of bioenergy which exists in all things and that the universe is made of yin chi and yang chi. Chi flows through the human body in vessels called meridians; these meridians are commonly believed to be similar to (but not the same as) the nerves and the nervous system. Chi provides energy to the body, mind, and spirit. In essence, chi is the body’s life force. Chinese medical theory believes that it is very important to keep the flow of Chi smooth and regular, and to keep the yin chi and yang chi balanced; otherwise, illness (both physical and/or mental) results.
As a Qigong practitioner, you use both mental control and physical exercises to increase your supply of Chi, ease its flow, and maintain its balance, while maintaining complete control. During Qigong exercises, it is common for students to feel various sensations as Chi moves through the body such as heat, pressure, swelling, tingling, or trembling. While it may take some time for the healthful and healing effects of Qigong practice to fully manifest (a month to a year of constant practice), after each practice session, you will feel more alert and energetic, yet relaxed, centered and peaceful.
